MAN Urges NMDPRA to Stop Undermining Dangote Refinery and Local Producers

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has advised the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and other regulatory bodies to cease undermining Dangote Refinery and other domestic producers.

In a statement, MAN's Director-General, Mr. Segun Ajayi-Kadir, responded to the conflict between Dangote Refinery and NMDPRA, emphasizing that government regulatory agencies should foster a supportive environment for local investments. He asserted that no agency should tarnish the reputation of a domestic investment like the Dangote Refinery.

Ajayi-Kadir noted that allegations of poor quality, monopolistic behavior, and license non-issuance against Dangote Refinery have been thoroughly refuted. He suggested the need for a formal clarification to dispel the negative perceptions caused by recent reports.

Last week, NMDPRA's CEO, Farouk Ahmed, claimed that diesel from Dangote Refinery was of inferior quality compared to imports and highlighted the refinery's lack of commissioning while criticizing its monopolistic tendencies. In response, Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, refuted these claims, asserting the high quality of his refinery's products.

The Senate, House of Representatives, and Minister of Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, have all intervened to mediate the dispute between Dangote Refinery and NMDPRA. The House Committee on Midstream and Downstream has initiated an investigation into the matter.

Previously, Lokpobiri convened a meeting with Dangote, Ahmed, and the Group CEO of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, to address the ongoing sector crisis.
